Squirrel knocks out power at Camden CMP substation

    ROCKPORT — Central Maine Power linesmen have traced the cause of a Sunday morning power outage to a squirrel at a CMP substation in Camden. 

    According to John Breed, CMP spokesperson, power to expected to be back on prior to noon as crews are working on the lines. 

    Eleven hundred and one customers in Rockport, and 1,471 customers in Camden are reported to be without power, Sunday morning, Oct. 22, according to the Central Maine Power website. 

    People in Camden report that power remains on in downtown Camden, but is out at the Reny’s Plaza, on Elm Street. 

    The Rockport streets that have seen the most outages are Commercial Street (215), Beech Hill Road (64) and Main Street (60). 

    For Camden, Pearl Street took the brunt with 96 outages, followed by Elm Street west with 87, and Chestnut Street (80) and Bayview Street (78).

    Crews are assessing and will update as more information becomes available.
